Bukhara Then and Now

Ulugh Beg Madrasa in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.

Ulugh Beg (1394 – 1449), grandson of Amir Timur, was the greatest astronomer and mathematician in Central Asia of his time. He build several Madrasa (religious educational institution) as he believed in the importance of education.  This one he build in Bukhara in 1417.

By coincidence I found this picture of the same place taken by my great-grandpa on his travels on the silk road  in 1970.
